August 26—Be There or Be Square
Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather has confirmed he will fight MMA star Connor McGregor on August 26 in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in what is being billed as the Fight of the Century.
Tickets will go on sale shortly, but unless you’ve got incredible connections, or a lot of money, you will be unlikely to get tix for this event. For the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight in 2015, only 500 tickets were released to the general public, ranging in price from $1500 up. These 500 tix disappeared in minutes. The other 16,300 tix went to casinos, promoters and scalpers, with jacked-up prices ranging from $3,000 to more than $40,000.
But don’t worry. Showtime has already announced they will be screening the fight on pay-per-view.
You may recall that for the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight at MGM Grand two years ago, MGM blacked out the pay-per-view in all venues except for MGM properties. No other Vegas hotels, sports books, or sports bars could screen the fight and even most of the strip clubs couldn’t show it.
But now, Mayweather has his own strip club in Vegas, Girl Collection, and it would not surprise me if Mayweather negotiated to be able to screen the fight there.
Nothing has been said yet about MGM blacking out the fight. I can guarantee you that all five Vegas strip clubs that screen PPV events will be scrambling to show this fight (see below).
Guess Where Mayweather will be Partying After the Fight?
Girl Collection: This is the strip club Mayweather designed as his personal hangout in Vegas, and it’s a terrific sexy party any time, with the topless show all around you (see our review through the link above). Even if a PPV screening is not allowed in the Vegas strip clubs, this will almost certainly be where Floyd comes to celebrate after the fight. Floyd has giant HD TV monitors placed strategically throughout the club for events like this, and there are even TV monitors over the wash basins and urinals in the men’s room. There’s no way you’ll miss the knockout punch.
Sapphire: Sapphire’s 300-seat Showroom is one of the best venues in Vegas for watching sports events, and for a fight like this, Sapphire will be screening the event throughout the 70,000-square-foot club. They always serve an exceptional buffet at their screening parties and their monster HD monitors make it one of the best sports-viewing parties in the world.
Deja Vu Showgirls: Deja Vu Vegas was the only strip club in Vegas that did screen the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight because of some national deal they had with PPV. The club was standing room only (that’s where I watched the fight). So Deja Vu will be a good bet whether MGM blacks out again or not. Deja Vu always throws a party with drink deals.
Crazy Horse 3: Crazy Horse 3 always screens major PPV sporting events if they’re not blacked out. There are usually drink deals.
Hustler: Hustler Club, like Crazy Horse 3, always screens major PPV sporting events if they’re not blacked out.
I’ll be posting updates here with details on strip club fight party packages as they’re announced. And it’s not too early to start thinking about Monday Night Football parties as well.
